A key program at the Johnson Adult Center is Day Tripping – a series of “field trips” where participants hike, visit cultural institutions, golf, eat at restaurants and much more. The outings are heavily staffed and appropriate to the cognitive and physical abilities of the participants. Each year, about 200-day tripping experiences are enjoyed and include activities that people without memory loss enjoy. By providing these opportunities to the population we serve, we are able to enrich their lives, increase their self-esteem and offer activities in which they otherwise may not participate.
The day tripping program was started in 1995 by the mother-in-law of a JADP participant who had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, but she was still physically active and enjoyed getting “out and about”. The program was developed to allow adults who, though they may have memory loss, are still physically able to be active and partake in excursions into the community. Through the Day Trip Program, many JADP participants are able to get “out and about” and experience things they enjoyed before their loss of memory.
Day trips run three days a week and offer three different levels of intensity:
Day Trips depart at 10:30 a.m. and return at 3:00 p.m. (times may vary, depending on the type of activity). Our fee is $78* per day, which includes transportation and lunch at a restaurant.
